The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have announces a new format for CAT 2011. With the same number of questions, this year’s CAT will have two sections instead of three and an extra five minutes to take the test.

The two sections would be: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning.

In the new method, the IIMs have clubbed the sections which were divided into three parts in the older method.

The candidates will also be provided 15 minutes tutorials before the examination starts, making the total time two hours and 35 minutes. The test will be conducted between October 22 and November 18, 2011. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions in each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer. Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second and will not be able to go back. Earlier, the three sections had 20 questions each.

A Mobile OS from Mozilla

The organisation whose Firefox browser many of us are currently using, Mozilla, is currently working on a "complete, stand-alone operating system for the Web." The system is being called by the name of Boot to Gecko, or B2G, and it is being designed solely for mobile devices.

The beauty of the project, B2G, being envisaged by Mozilla is that it takes Chrome’s open source ideas to the mobile space. For instance, B2G will have ways for developers to get at phone functions like placing calls and taking pictures. The kernel is based on Android, at a very low level. ..........

Features that makes Google+ more interesting ... Do not miss it ...... but use it

Google has come up with a very novel idea of offering a substitute for Facebook to world around. It has inaugurated the service named Google+ that is said to provide a much private and secure medium for subscribers which Facebook failed to serve.  Google+ is the tech giant's latest attempt to crack the social network market.

1. Circles - The “Circles” concept of the Google is far more comparable to our real life friend circles than the “ad hoc” group concept of the Facebook. Everyday, we interact with hundreds of people but not always in the same way. The Google+ lets you create different circles to which you can add different people you want. For example, you can create one circle for your family, one circle for your work people, one for your old classmates and as many as you want. The biggest touted perk is that you can share the things with the circle that you want and the other circles won’t ever know of it.

2. Using the '+'   One of the key features of Google+ is its streamlined approach to online sharing. Google has described the process as "awkward, even broken" and their new network aims to fix that.
Google+ is integrated into the navigation bar at the top of almost all Google products, which allows users to keep track of their Google+ notifications without doubling back to the main Google+ homepage.

3. Integration :  Integration is one of the biggest feature that Google has in its hands to win over the audience.  It's nothing but all of Google's existing online services like Gmail, Docs, search features are combined on to a single platform in Google+ and you can do everything on the same site.

4. Sparks : Google has done something that Facebook will not be able to do, with Google+ Spark.
When you are networking on Facebook, you often have to leave the site for finding shareable information with your friends. Google+'s Spark is an instant solution to that problem.  Google has optimised its search engine to provide instant search for finding stuff you wanna share. Since Facebook doesn't have a search engine, it is obvious that this feature can't be provided by Facebook.

5. Hangouts - The feature allows users to pull groups together for a simultaneous video chat. You can chat with up to ten people in the group video chat option. Forming ad hoc groups to have a little chat with people you know seems a little too fun.

6. Better mobile apps   Google+ has a lot better apps for Android users, rather than Facebook. You will find that it's a lot more easier to get stuff on your Google+ profile than it ever was on Facebook.

It's a whole new chapter in your life. You leave behind the secure environment of your school and your childhood and embark upon an education that will have a direct impact upon your career.... So rock it till the time you are in college.

College is a new place full of challenges, right from making good friends to balancing study time and freedom .... freedom. so start it on right way with right direction...

A. Explore your new college campus. Explore the facilities provided the college .Come a little earlier than usual and walk around your campus before your classes begin and get familiar with the layout and various departments and places eg the library, canteen, gymkhana, auditorium etc.

B. Make new friends as you moving from one corner to another corner. Do not miss the orientation programme. Introduced yourself. Interact with seniors students of the college. Talk to them; seek their advice and learn more about your stream and course. You can use their experience and tackle freshman issues better. Choose your new friends wisely.

C. Find out who the best professors from your college are and take time off and introduce yourself to them after the class. You have to spend the rest of the semester under their guidance. How much you enjoy any course depends to some extent upon your relationship with the professor. Don't be scared to raise your hand and ask your professors questions if you don't understand something. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Your question may be one that others may also have, but just haven't asked for the same reason as you. Remember, professors are there to help you. If they insist on meeting you after class, find time for the same. "Also ensure that you are not overdoing it. Keep your relations as brief and academic as possible .

D. Attend classes regularly. While it may be tempting to bunk college and indulge in a game of football with friends, do not do so at the cost of your attendance. Maintain 90-95 percent to appear for better understanding of the subject and marks in exams. Otherwise you are in the list of “Defaulter “in the College. .

E. Participate the Extra Curricular activities. Do not shy and hesitant to participate in extra-curricular activities as per your taste like in singing , dancing , debates, elocution, painting, organizing etc.

F. identifies the difficult subjects in your semester. Chalk out a timetable and allot yourself time to prepare for each subject. Always keep a copy of syllabus and do not wait till the last day to submit work on a subject . Attend Labs session more and more.

More information from Rediffmail.

Most students think that they can make more friends by bunking lectures. Wrong. In fact, they can make more friends by sitting in a class and sharing knowledge.

10 reasons why Google+ can never vanquish Facebook

Google's decision to try its luck one more time in the social market with its Google+ platform is somewhat surprising. Over the last several years, Google has attempted to vanquish top players in the social market with the help of Orkut and Google Buzz. In both cases, it failed, even though those services are still in operation.
Now, with Google+, many believe the search giant is delivering the best social experience it ever has. The project boasts several features, including group support and video chatting, that, some say, help it trump Facebook. However, Facebook allows for group support and the social network added video calling last week. In some areas, Google+ and Facebook appear to be in a dead heat...
